Laω No. 1: Set up Self-ßoun∂ariεs

That which cannot be conceived through anything else must be conceived through itself(Spinoza, Ethics)

A composer by definition is someone who, creating an emotional and intellectual world, plays God. The events that make this world are the fruit of her/his personal need to create. In this world, the composer is the sole ruler of the sound-space that she/he generates, the sounds subjected to her/his will.

The craft of composition is the art of building abstract forms out of sound. The time-segment of the entire composition is divided into parts; changes in the music render these parts distinguishable. Art music uses many forms, some of which you may have heard of: “Sonata“, “Rondo“, “Theme and Variations” and many others. These names signify differently shaped empty templates, filled in by each composer, following her/his unique taste. They are the core assets of composition: the arches, the pillars and the domes with which J.S.Bach and L.W.Beethoven have built their own “Michael-Angelic” Chapels.

Being a composer, means to strive for the assembly of one’s own Sistine Chapel. This is the starting point of my self-reflection, and is in itself sufficient grounds for a love-hate self-relationship. This is the root of my inexhaustible, ever growing fear of sharing the very curse that sealed the fate of Narcissus. Still, above all fears stands the narcissistic, almost uncontrollable, ineluctable need to create, and like God Himself – to break the Platonic forms, playing with raw, sensual flesh, that bleeds my lusts and desires.
